We are still two years away from Captain America 3, which will hit in 2016, but there are already questions about what the fate of Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers will be. Evans has already made it clear that he is not wanting to keep acting after his Avengers’ gigs end and move into the directors chair at that point.
With that said, Marvel recently had Steve Rogers in the comics pass on his shield and costume to Sam Wilson, The Falcon. Is there a chance the movies could go the same route?
When asked about the fate of Steve Rogers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier co-director Anthony Russo told MTV that it “is a hard question to answer because it gets to the specific of where the narratives are going. I will say this: yes, for satisfying storytelling, you want a beginning, middle and end.
“The great thing about the Marvel universe, just like the publishing, it’s a very vast, inter-connected universe, where characters will have their rise and fall, so to speak, and hand off to other characters. As the cinematic universe moves forward, you may start to see the cinematic universe adopt that same pattern.”
Now, Anthony Russo didn’t come out and say that Steve Rogers would hand off his character to someone else, but knowing what just happened in the comics, it sure sounds like that is what might be coming in Captain America 3.
With Chris Evans contract coming to an end, who would you rather see take over the mantle of Captain America – Falcon or Bucky? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
