Reports of Kevin Smith’s impending retirement appear to have been greatly exaggerated.  Smith is now deep into casting for his follow up to Tusk (which is currently set to premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival).  While promoting Tusk at Comic-Con, he claimed Tusk to be the first part of what he called his “True North Trilogy.”

The second film of the series, titled Yoga Hosers, will be a story about “two high school girls who battle evil.”  Naturally, the big name so far for this film’s cast is Johnny Depp but the cast reportedly also includes several more actors from Tusk including Michael Parks, Justin Long, Genesis Rodriguez, and Haley Joel Osment.  Also included in the cast are Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey and Jason Mewes (naturally).  Interestingly enough the two leads will be played by Lily-Rose Depp (Depp’s daughter) and Harley Quinn Smith (Kevin Smith’s daughter).

I’ve got to admit this is the most a Kevin Smith movie has piqued my interest in quite a while.  It’s nice to see him try to take on such an ambitious project and I’m interested in seeing what his own version of a Cornetto Trilogy looks like.  As for Johnny Depp, it’s a relief to see him try to go back to his more independent movie roots after watching him greatly damage his reputation in mostly crappy blockbusters since Alice in Wonderland.

Are you excited for this new Kevin Smith trilogy?  Can Yoga Hosers  breathe some life into Johnny Depp’s career?  Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
