The first xXx movie was dumb fun, with Vin Diesel starring as extreme sports athlete Xander Cage convinced to work for the National Security Agency as a spy. There was a sequel, but Diesel didn’t return and Ice Cube replaced him in a movie that was nowhere near as fun as the first. Well, it looks like Diesel will return to the third installment and Diesel told Collider that it will be shooting in the Philippines.
The news comes as Diesel is out helping to promote Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, while also preparing for the press that will accompany his next effort in the Fast & Furious franchise. Between those two movies and the Riddick films that Diesel loves so much (with a fourth on the way in the future), xXx is just another added franchise to hang his hat on.
Diesel said that he is shooting the next xXx movie and is very excited about it. The original movie was going to be called The Final Chapter: The Death of Xander Cage in 2008 but things stalled and it went into developmental hell again. It sounds like it has made its way out and Diesel is still aboard for another outing. This is the second time this year that Diesel has mentioned the movie, so expect it to be actually heading into development soon.
xXx 3 isn’t all that Vin Diesel has in the works. He is also working on The Last Witch Hunter, which is his next film, and then will play the lead in the Kojak adaptation after that.
