For people wondering if the comic book movie craze is going to end, don’t hold your breath. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with the first Iron Man movie and only includes those under Disney’s Marvel banner, just became the most successful movie franchise of all time.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe hit $2.457 billion after Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s opening weekend, which moved it past the Harry Potter franchise, which made $2.3 billion. Star Wars is third with $1.918 billion and James Bond is fourth at $1.9 billion.

Marvel did it with nine movies, while Harry Potter has eight, Star Wars has six and James Bond has 23.

All four franchises are still making movies, so they will continue to build on their totals. As a matter of fact, four of the next movies on the list are all still in action to including Batman, Lord of the Rings and Spider-Man.

But, back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier made $30 million more in its opening weekend, meaning that fans are just getting more excited about what is coming from Marvel. The biggest test will come with the relatively unknown Guardians of the Galaxy, but with Avengers: Age of Ultron coming next year, things are only going to get better.
