A new Batman mythology is coming in the DC New 52 line of comics.

When the New DC 52 first began, almost all the superheroes in the DC Universe received a new origin story. Superman was updated for a new generation, The Green Lantern and Flash stories were streamlined to make them less confusing for new readers. The way the members of the Justice League met was completely overhauled. However, Batman remained the same.

That was pretty confusing since the New DC 52 pretty much said that the superheroes have only been around for five years. Yet, Batman had a pre-teen son Damien Wayne, who was Robin, as well as Jason Todd as Red Hood, Dick Grayson as Nightwing and Tim Drake as Red Robin. How did Batman go through all those kids in five years?

Well, with Damien Wayne dead now, it’s time to go back and give a new Batman mythology like the rest of the DC Universe received. With “The Zero Year,” new Batman writer Scott Snyder will explore his beginning in an 11-issue series. However, he says fans don’t have to be worried about drastic changes to their favorite character.

“It’s not ‘let’s redo the origin. It’s time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52. We tried to preserve as much of Batman’s history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact. It’s ‘The Zero Year,’ the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain.”

The Zero Year goes on sale in June 2013 and the new Batman mythology for the New DC 52 will finally be revealed.
