With Bat-Fleck controversy flying across the interwebs, celebrity friends and supporters of the entertainment industry have stuck their neck out to give Ben Affleck defense.  One such man has remained quiet up until now about the major casting, and it’s about damn time we hear from him.

While doing an interview in India for his film Elysium, Matt Damon–Ben Affleck’s best friend and writing partner of Good Will Hunting– finally had this to say about his friend playing Bruce Wayne.

“I think it will be great! It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. You know, he’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw ‘Argo’ or ‘The Town,’ and all the work he’s been doing lately, it’s way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that… But it’s safe to say I won’t be Robin.”

Part of me finds it humorous how much Damon is downplaying the effort that goes into tackling the caped crusader. That being said, I like the respect he gives to handling the role of Bruce Wayne, which I agree may be where Affleck is going to shine brightest.

Batman Vs. Superman will hit theaters in 2015, and will not feature Matt Damon as Robin.
