Stephen King’s The Stand was supposed to be coming to the big screen, with a new adaptation of the very popular novel. Originally made as a watered-down TV series, this time the movie was supposed to be a theatrical release and Ben Affleck was set to direct it. Well, The Stand director is now playing Batman and has stepped down from the project, replaced by Scott Cooper.
This was the first casualty of Ben Affleck playing Batman, and there might be more to come since the Batman vs. Superman filming is supposed to take place around the same time that Affleck was supposed to shoot his next directorial movie Live By Night. And then there is Gone Girl, which might be the next to fall.
Back to The Stand. The new Stand director looks to be Scott Cooper, the man who directed Crazy Heart. If Jeff Bridges is to be believed, his second movie, Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale in the lead, might be one of the best of 2013. That movie comes out on Dec. 6.
What might be next for Cooper is now The Stand, something that landed in his lap thanks to Ben Affleck donning the cowl. This could be a big breakout moment for Scott Cooper as The Stand director. It could also be what Stephen King fans have been waiting for.
