When it comes to major fanboy properties, the only thing tougher than finding a director for Star Wars, is finding a director for Star Trek. Now that J. J. Abrams has moved on to a galaxy far, far away, Paramount has their work cut out for them to find a new director.
Recently, G. I. Joe: Retaliation helmer, John Chu was a rumored possibility as a director but that was quickly debunked.
The latest Star Trek 3 director name to pop up is Rupert Wyatt, who directed the impressive reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes. One thing is for sure, the man is definitely a solid sci-fi director. His touch could bring something new to the rebooted Star Trek property as well.
Ass of right now this is only a rumor as nothing official as yet been confirmed. However, I would expect news on an official director pretty soon because Paramount wants Star Trek 3 released by 2016. Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the much beloved franchise. Stay tuned at Renegade Cinema for more updates!
