According to the guys over at Latino Review, Harrison Ford is about to sign on to reprise his role as Han Solo in the next Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode VII. While the L.A. Times reports that Ford is “a long ways” from actually signing back on, I believe the Latino Review guys these days over the Times.
If Ford does return, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher should be right behind him. All they need to do after that is re-sign Peter Mayhew to reprise the role of Chewbacca, and we have what fans have been waiting on since the prequels disappointed.
Honestly, the biggest problem with the prequels was that there were no great characters to get behind, at least none as good as the originals.
The question now is what the new movies will do with the original cast members. Disney already said they are not paying attention to the extended universe from the books, in which Han and Leia have three kids who grow up and take on lead roles in the Star Wars universe.
The best bet for the new trilogy would be to use the original cast members introduce their kids to lead the new fights that lie ahead. I also have a sneaky suspicion that Harrison Ford might want the new movies to kill Han Solo this time around. He wanted to die in Empire Strikes Back, and honestly the death of Han Solo could go a long ways in launching his children into the forefront.
