Michael Rooker appeared at the Wizard World Tulsa Comic Con over the weekend and talked about his career, including what he calls his favorite movie that he ever appeared in – Guardians of the Galaxy. He also revealed some huge information when he said that his character Yondu will return for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
It was clear that most fans in attendance cared mostly about his turn as Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead, with Yondu as the second most popular. There were also mentions of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Mallrats, but the big news was his return for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.
It was great when Rooker’s casting was announced, but was not surprising. When James Gunn signed on as the director, it was clear that he would bring in some of his core actors, and that happened with Rooker playing Yondu, Sean Gunn as Yondu’s right hand man and even Nathan Fillion coming in for a cameo role as a monster.
Now, Michael Rooker is returning to the Marvel Universe, which as he says, is something that his mortgage payment appreciates. The return was never a sure thing since Yondu finished the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie leaving the Guardians behind, without actually realizing that Peter Quill scammed him until the very end.
Yondu is not a member of the team, although in the comics, he was one of the original Guardians of the Galaxy back when the team debuted in the 60s. How and why Yondu will meet up again with the Guardians is unknown, but Michael Rooker says he will be back, so fans can rejoice.
