One of the biggest surprises of 2011 was the reboot to the beloved Planet of the Apes franchise. Maybe it was my low expectations after the hell inducing experience that was the Tim Burton remake, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes moved me in a way I was not anticipating. So needless to say, I’m eagerly awaiting the follow-up.
The sequel entitled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has found a director in Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), and has officially began casting on the production. Jason Clarke, who can be currently recognized as a CIA interrogator in Zero Dark Thirty, has boarded the franchise to star in the next installment. No details have been revealed about the nature of his role but neither has any info been said regarding the plot.
Clarke’s character was an intense presence in Zero Dark Thirty. I can see his acting style matching the apocalyptic tone quite perfectly for the next film. It would be my guess that he will be playing the role of one of the survivors or rebels against the apes. Either way, this is a great addition to an already promising franchise.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is slated for a May 23rd, 2014 release date!
