Everybody that likes science fiction with a heaping side of smart social commentary knows that Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium is set to hit theaters next week. In what is likely to be the final big marketing wave for the film, a new Elysium extended trailerĀ has been released. Check it out below.

Admittedly, there is a lot of footage in this Elysium extended trailer that we’ve seen before. However, there are definitely newer and more awesome visages of action to behold, such as the punching power of the lead character’s exoskeleton and ammunition that bursts in midair to completely envelop an enemy in shrapnel.
There are other more thought-provoking moments as well, such as Elysium going dark, and one that got to me in particular, the sight of children’s booted feet running in the mud. Finally, we get a better look at Sharlto Copley, and the more this Renegade Reporter sees, the more he likes this very interesting turn by the star of District 9. And there’s no doubt that Jodie Foster can bring huge authoritative and ruthless acting chops to the table. This is going to be a helluva fun ride, with an added bonus of being a thinking person’s flavor of sci-fi to boot.
Elysium opens in theaters next Friday, August 9th.
