Over the past few years, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has used a very interesting approach to selecting his projects. Instead of trying to build a franchise or two from the ground-up, he’s been working as a kind of franchise repairman, joining some pre-existing franchises and giving them a kickstart. He’s already done this with G.I. Joe, and Fast & Furious, and Journey to the Mysterious Island. Terminator 5 casting rumors indicate he is at it again.
According to some industry buzz, he may soon be using his newfound Midas touch powers with the new Terminator movie. It’s rumored that that Johnson will be joining his longtime friend Arnold Schwarzenegger in the franchise that made Arnold a household name and a box office champion.
In fact, one industry insider says that Rock could be having a role created just for him in one version of the script. Another rumor states that it’s possible that the new film will also be a prequel to the original film, with the Skynet machines attempting to send a Terminator to kill Sarah Connors’ parents. There’s of course no guarantee that this is the case, but it does sound like the new Terminator film will be very very different from what we’re used to seeing.
What do you think of the idea of Johnson joining in for Terminator 5? Would you be excited to see The Great One go toe-to-toe with Arnold himself? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
