Earlier this week, Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Pictures and Paramount Pictures have announced that principal photography has begun on Hercules: The Thracian Wars. The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular mythical hero and features Brett Ratner as the director.
Johnson will be joined by an impressive supporting cast for the film, including the likes of Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berda, Reese Ritchie, and Academy Award-nominee John Hurt.
There was some worry that the film would be derailed when Johnson was injured in his WrestleMania bout with John Cena. Thankfully, it looks like the film has resumed its schedule with no major delays.
The Rock also teased a picture of himself in the makeup room via Twitter. The picture is listed below.
Here is the very intriguing premise of the film, which is based on the graphic novel from Radical Studios.
“Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend…Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.”
Paramount Pictures will be distributing the film worldwide for a July 14th release next year.
