Love it or hate it, James Cameron’s immersive vision of Avatar was and is a box-office phenomenon. The movie remains the highest grossing film of all-time with an impressive global pull of 2.7 billion dollars. Ever since its success, Cameron and the studio have stated several times that two more sequels are definitely in the works. However, most of the production of an Avatar sequel has been delayed for technical reasons up until recently.
Avatar sweetheart Zoe Saldana says the film actually heads into filming sooner than we think. In a new interview with Digital Spy, Saldana discusses plans for the next major sequel.
“I think that they’re doing a part two and a part three and they’re probably going to shoot it at the same time…If we just do two and then wait, I’ll probably be 45 or 50 by the time we get to part three. It takes a long time, it’s a very hard process.”
Saldana also mentions that filming is supposed to commence early 2014, and not late 2013 as previously rumored.
I wasn’t as crazy about the original Avatar film as everyone else was, but the 3D experience is one of the best I’ve had with the technology since the release. I remember hearing that most of the next film takes place above and below the ocean and that sounds incredibly cool for a 3D movie. Whatever happens, I’m hoping the next entry has a fresher story than its predecessor.
