The new Marvel television show S.H.I.E.L.D. brought in a new face with an old Whedon alum.

The new S.H.I.E.L.D. casting rumors have J. August Richards joining the show in a yet to be defined role. Of course, Richards starred on Whedon’s Angel as Gunn, the street-wise fighter that helped the vampire warrior in protecting the streets of L.A.

ABC hasn’t commented on Richard’s S.H.I.E.L.D. casting rumors, but ShieldTV.net broke the news and TV Line confirmed it through their sources. Apparently, his role is “top secret.”

J. August Richards is the first familiar face from the Whedon-verse to join the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast, joining Ming-Na, Chloe Bennet, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker, and Clark Gregg, who reprises his role from the Marvel Universe movies.

J. August Richards played Gunn on Angel from early in the first season through the end of the series. He has also appeared on shows like Law & Order: Conviction and Raising the Bar.
