So far, things are shaping up quite nicely for the casting of The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. We first heard that Jamie Foxx would be taking on the role as Electro. Now, we hear buzz from The Hollywood Reporter that Paul Giamatti is in early discussions to inherit the villainous role of Rhino. Even though an official confirmation of his attachment has not been announced, this is promising news considering Giamatti himself has expressed his love for the character. Here is a statement he gave to ShowbizSpy back in 2011.
I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” says Paul. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me… If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.
This is amazing news if he does end up accepting the role. Giamatti is one of the best things about the action film Shoot ‘Em Up. His villain role in that movie was cartoonish but extremely fun in delivery. I honestly have very little knowledge of the character Rhino. What I do know is Giamatti is a tremendous actor, and if he has a passion for the character, I say let him have it. It’s not everyday you see such a well established performer asking for this type of role.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled for release on May 2nd, 2014. What do you think? Does Paul Giamatti seem like a good fit for The Rhino?
