Channing Tatum has been talking about wanting to play X-Men superhero Gambit for a long time and he finally got his wish. Tatum took to Twitter on Monday and basically let everyone now the movie was coming and 20th Century Fox confirmed it.
How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?

This was coming, especially after producer Lauren Shuler Donner expressed her interest (ie. crush) in Tatum and his opportunity to play Gambit. The good news is that Tatum is pretty much a big fan-boy, so he should tackle this role with gusto. However, the questions abound when it comes to Tatum playing a Cajun.
Honestly, as bad as X-Men Origins: Wolverine was, Taylor Kitsch was actually pretty damn good as Gambit. I don’t know if Tatum will be able to pull it off. Of course, Donner said that she thinks he will be good at it because he is a “rogue” and “rascal.” Well, I guess if that is all it takes.
This will mean that the Gambit movie will hit in 2016 and then X-Men: Apocalypse will hit in 2017. I have no idea if the two properties will connect at all. I mean, Gambit appeared in the Wolverine origins movie, which took place before the first X-Men movie. X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the 80s. I guess he could tie in there somehow.
Anyway, the Gambit movie hits theaters on Oct. 7, 2016 and will star Channing Tatum. What are your thoughts about the movie? Can Tatum pull it off? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
