It is awards season and the first awards are starting to roll out for this year’s best movies. The National Board of Review just released their winners, with the actual award ceremony taking place on Jan. 6, 2015 and hosted by Lara Spencer.

The big winner was for the 1981 period drama A Most Violent Year, a movie starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain about an Italian immigrant trying to build his natural gas business in the face of mafia controlled oil organizations, a district attorney who has targeted him for numerous charges, and people carjacking his trucks and stealing his product, all during the most violent year in New York City history.

A Most Violent Year is an exhilarating crime drama with a compelling story, outstanding performances, and an elegant cinematic style,” said Annie Schulhof, NBR President. “J.C. Chandor has given us a new and provocative perspective on the American Dream.”

It was an award that was well deserved and also picked up awards for both Chastain and Isaac as well. Here is a look at all the 2014 award winners for the National Board of Review.
