Ghostbusters 3 has been in the works for a very long time. Most of the rumors over the past few years have surrounded Bill Murray holding the movie up by refusing to take part. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis both wanted to make the movie, as did original director Ivan Reitman, but Murray had no part in it. When Ramis tragically died, Reitman left the project and Aykroyd was the last man standing.
That hasn’t stopped the Ghostbusters 3 rumors, as Phil Lord and Chris Miller were offered the project after the amazing success of The Lego Movie but they eventually turned the movie down. After that, Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) was rumored for the director’s chair, which is one of the reasons that he was rumored to miss out on a Star Wars movie.
Now, the rumored director is Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat). The fact that his most popular movies starred women is no coincidence. The Hollywood Reporter just reported that Ghostbusters 3 will be a movie that focuses “on female Ghostbusters). With names like Anna Faris and Emma Stone rumored for Ghostbusters 3 in the past, maybe the movie has always been about female heroes.
