The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that MGM will now be partnering with GK Films to develop a new movie franchise based on the Tomb Raider video games. Apparently, GK Films purchased the film rights to the popular game series from Square Enix back in 2011.
Gary Barber, chairman and CEO of MGM, and Graham King, founder of GK Films, made this announcement on Wednesday. King will also serve as a producer on the new Tomb Raider film, which will begin development “immediately.”
This will actually be the third Tomb Raider film to hit the silver screen. Angelina Jolie starred in both of the original two: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life.
While I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Tomb Raider games -especially the new reboot that just debuted – but not very many good things about those movies.
What do you think of this news? Do you think that these two companies will be a good match for Miss Croft? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
