Though Chiwetel Ejiofor didn’t walk away with the Oscar last month, his performance in 12 Years a Slave certainly did not go unnoticed. This could be why he is currently the frontrunner to play the villain in Bond 24. Ejiofor has not received an official offer yet but he is reportedly at the top of the producers list for the role.
I cannot stress enough how much I hope he gets this role. Ejiofor is a fantastic actor and deserves the exposure of being in a major action movie franchise. I’ve never been crazy about James Bond films (yes, that includes Skyfall) but if he’s the villain then I will definitely catch this one in theaters.
Also, it’s not like he doesn’t have experience playing a villain. His role as The Operative in Serenity is one my absolute favorite villain performances and have followed his career ever since. The only downside is that this would almost certainly leave him ineligible for Star Wars Episode VII but it’s nice to see Ejiofor finally getting the respect he has long deserved. It’s not clear what kind of villain Ejiofor would play but I have full confidence he will nail his performance.
