The Rock was doing a roundtable over the weekend to talk about his upcoming Hercules movie and questions veered to the rumored DC Comics rumors that The Rock started himself. While many thought he was playing The Green Lantern in the Justice League movie, but that was not the first DC Comics character that he was rumored to play.
After the roundtable, the original DC Comics rumors are back, as The Rock Lobo rumors are running wild again. This came from three hints that The Rock threw out.
1. “He had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on. What that does for me as an actor and the studio is it gives us space that we can explore; his complexities.”
2. “The character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life. Then what that does again as an actor, it gives me a little bit of space, and we talked about personality.”
3. “Most important is he had to be a badass motherfu**er, okay, and on a Superman level of power, where could throw down. In those three qualities, I’m happy we’ve found that character. Right now, we’re out to a lot of writers.
With this said, everyone assumed that The Rock was playing Lobo. He has never been brought to life in a movie and he is a bad man on the level of Superman but I would never call Lobo complex.
Ever.
Now, check out what The Rock said when a fan on Twitter asked him if he was playing Green Lantern.
Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Black Adam are my fav superheroes, but GL’s already been made and stamped.
Now, some writers online who have convinced themselves that it HAS TO BE LOBO refuse to even consider anyone else. But, notice what The Rock said there – he never mentioned Lobo, but said Black Adam is one of his favorite superheroes.
Now, ignore the fact that Black Adam is a villain. I want to take you back to the series “52” when Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman were gone for a full year and the smaller heroes were spotlighted. During that time, Black Adam became a hero to HIS people – and while the governments of the world all feared him, he was the best character in that entire 52 week series.
A Black Adam role was rumored for The Rock at one time, maybe in a Shazam movie, but honestly, he could be an awesome lead in his own movie. While Black Adam won’t sell a movie, The Rock can.
It might be Lobo, but I am putting my money on Black Adam.
