Fox appears to be wasting no time moving forward with their sequel to The Wolverine. Shortly after announcing their plans to release the sequel in March 2017, they hired screenwriter David James Kelly to pen the script. Hugh Jackman will once again reprise his role and James Mangold is expected to return as director.
While I like that Fox has decided to hit the ground running in making this sequel, I really have to question the wisdom in hiring Kelly to write it. I’ve looked at the guy’s IMDB page and he doesn’t seem to have much in the way of experience. The only official credit to his name appears to be a short he wrote, directed and produced back in 2010 called Straw Man. Oh, and apparently he’s also an eagle scout so there’s that I guess. He was also attached to write Fox’s scraped Daredevil reboot before the rights reverted back to Marvel, so the studio for whatever reason seems to really like him.
There are currently no details available yet about the plot of the movie but it’s possible we could know more after this year’s Comic-Con.
