Fox Announces Fantastic Four and Wolverine Sequels

Fantastic Four Sequel

Fox appears to be ready to move forward with their plans for their own Marvel universe.  They have announced release dates for several Marvel films including the Fantastic Four sequel and Wolverine 3.  They have also reserved a July 2018 release date for a currently unknown Marvel movie and a March 2016 release for an untitled Ridley Scott project (Prometheus 2 perhaps?).

I’ve got to say I’m a little surprised that Fox is already planning a Fantastic Four sequel.  The first one hasn’t even started shooting yet so right now they don’t even really know what the film is going to look like much less how the audience will respond to it.  Nevertheless, Fox appears to be confident the first Fantastic Four will be a big enough hit to warrant a followup.  The sequel is set to released July 14, 2017.

Fox has also announced that a sequel to The Wolverine will be released on March 3, 2017.  Plot details are currently being kept secret but they have reportedly already convinced Hugh Jackman to return, hired a screenwriter and The Wolverine director James Mangold is expected to come back as well.

Not stopping there, Fox has also said they plan on releasing an untitled Marvel movie for July 13, 2018.  Exactly what this unannounced Marvel movie will end up being is anybody’s guess.  There have already been rumors circulating about possible movies for Deadpool and Gambit along with a possible X-Force adaptation.  Maybe we’ll know more after Comic-Con this summer but right now it could be anything.

Additionally, they have also slated an untitled Ridley Scott film to be released on March 4, 2016.  This could possibly end up being the sequel to Prometheus that Scott has insisted is being made.  I found Prometheus to be very disappointing so I’m not exactly enthusiastic about the possibility of a sequel.  Then again, if this is what Fox indeed plans to release, why didn’t they just say it was a Prometheus sequel?

Do you think Fox was too quick to plan a Fantastic Four sequel?  Are you excited for another Wolverine film?  What do you think their mystery Marvel movie is going to be?  Do you think a Prometheus sequel should be made?  Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.
