Well, after a couple rather well-publicized speed bumps, director J.J. Abrams and writer Lawrence Kasdan have finally completed the Star Wars Episode VII script. Abrams recently confirmed that they now have a finished script and they are now deep in pre-production.
Now that Abrams no longer has to focus on the script, this will probably mean that the casting rumors for the film will be getting worse before they get better (if that’s even possible). However, Abrams was willing to confirm that the rumors of Jesse Plemons being up a role in the film are indeed true. He didn’t mention the involvement of any other actors but then again Abrams has a habit of playing things close to the vest.
It’s slightly encouraging that Abrams has finally gotten some forward progress going on this movie even if I’m not entirely sure if I like the direction Episode VII is allegedly going in. For those of you who don’t know, it’s been rumored that Abrams wanted to rewrite the script so that the film focused on Luke, Leia and Han before passing the torch over to a younger generation of actors. The biggest problem I have with this is that I think the actors may be too old for this presumably action oriented film (Exhibit A : Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
Do you think Abrams is making the right approach with Episode VII? Sound off in the comment section below.
