January is always a horrible month for movies, and the weekend box office totals usually drop. However, the one genre that usually fares well in the first month of the year is the horror genre. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones came out this week, but fell short of the crown thanks to a former returning number one movie.

After falling behind The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug for three weeks, the Disney animated hit film Frozen not only made a surprising return to first place but ended up with the third largest sixth weekend box office total in history with $20.7 million.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones finished in second place with $18.2 million, which was $11 million less than the fourth movie in the franchise, which itself was $23 million less than the third. The series might be finally dying off. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug dropped to third place. Interestingly, Grudge Match moved into the Top 10 this week, passing 47 Ronin and the latest Tyler Perry movie.
