The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (read the Renegade Review here) rode a wave of anticipation and mostly good review to the #1 spot at the box office this weekend, crushing the competition with over $160M in domestic ticket sales. Thor: The Dark World held onto the #2 spot but only managed a little over $14M in the face of Katniss and the competition. Newcomer Vince Vaughn and his Delivery Man pulled in just over $8M to capture 4th place, while The Best Man Holiday — with one more Best Man sequel announced this past week given Holiday’s box office success — stood firm in third. Here’s the complete weekend box office breakdown:

The only real competition to Catching Fire may come from Disney’s Frozen, which sees a release just in time for the Turkey Day holiday here in the States next week. Other than that, expect Katniss and Co. to continue to ride high for awhile. In it’s first week of release, Catching Fire has already made more that its projected $130M budget, and it’s all gravy — sweet, sweet revolutionary gravy — from here.
