For the third weekend in a row, Gravity won the weekend box office. The returning 3D spectacle brought in another $31 million for a 28 percent drop, which is very impressive for an October weekend. The remake of Stephen King’s Carrie was disappointing at $17 million, but might pick up more as Halloween comes closer and The Escape Plan also made less than expected at $9.8 million, and sitting in fifth place. The biggest bomb was The Fifth Estate, a movie about WikiLeaks that received a horrible promotional push heading into the weekend and finished with only $1.7 million.

Next week sees the release of Ridley Scott’s The Counselor as well as the Jackass comedy Bad Grandpa. While The Counselor has received high critical praise, the comedy from the Jackass crew should probably outperform it and has the best chance of knocking off Gravity, although the chances are high that Gravity makes it four weeks in a row.
