I’d almost given up hope of ever seeing a Dark Tower adaptation. The Ron Howard idea of three movies with two television based mini series connecting them was a brilliant idea but the studios balked at it because of fear of a financial loss. However, it seems there is still a chance for it because Ron Howard is still working on the movie.

The latest Dark Tower news is that Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) has been in talks with Howard about being in the movie. When I heard this, I immediately thought of Eddie Dean, the former druggie that Roland took as part of his group. Sure enough, that is the role that Paul is up for and it is brilliant casting.

Originally, Howard wanted Javier Bardem as Roland, which could also be awesome, but damn if Aaron Paul isn’t Eddie Dean. That is just amazing.

Here is what Paul had to say about the Dark Tower rumors:

“I’ve had a ton of meetings on that. I just had a general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show [Breaking Bad, naturally], which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even knows who I am. They’re definitely planning on making it.”

Man, this is such great news for me as a Stephen King fan. Plus, Paul said the plan is still to make three movies with the television aspect still attached so things might be right back where they were before the troubles started.

I’m getting excited all over again.
