It appears Benedict Cumberbatch could be making headlines again soon for the fan-boys, since rumor has it he has been approached to be in a future Marvel movie. I must warn you though, I can’t stress enough that at this point it’s still just a rumor (after all the rumors about him appearing in Star Wars: Episode VII have already been reported and denied).
The rumor didn’t go into specifics about the role Marvel would want Cumberbatch to play or even in what movie they would want him to be in. Guardians of the Galaxy seems unlikely since they’re already deep into production and somehow I can’t picture picture him taking part in Ant-Man. I would suggest that he’d play the butler Jarvis in Avengers: Age of Ultron but apparently that’s already been taken.
If he really is being approached for a Marvel film my best guess would be as Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange started out as very egotistical and Cumberbatch has already had plenty of experience playing arrogant characters in Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness, and even The Fifth Estate. Also, this is the kind of role that would take a really charismatic actor to do properly (not unlike Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man), which Cumberbatch has in spades. Most of this will likely end up being just wishful thinking on my part but still fingers crossed.
