Bob Iger, the Chairman and CEO of Walt Disney Pictures, confirmed rumors that they will produce some films in the Star Wars universe that will focus on stand-alone characters.

In the CNBC interview, Iger had this to say:

“There has been speculation about some stand-alone films that are in development, and I can confirm to you today that, in fact, we are working on a few stand-alone films. Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great ‘Star Wars’ characters that are not part of the overall saga. So, we still plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX, roughly over a six-year period of time, starting roughly in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that time, too.”

Iger wouldn’t say exactly which of these ‘great characters’ would get their own stand-alone movie, but as early as yesterday, there was speculation that Yoda would be one of those characters.

This is certainly some momentous news for Star Wars fans. With this opportunity, we could very well get the Boba Fett solo movie that the fans have wanted for almost thirty years! I’d certainly be happy to see a Han Solo solo movie, focusing on his younger years. However, I have to agree with ‘D-Rock.’ They should first focus on getting ‘Star Wars VII’ right before they start spreading out.

What do you think about this news?  Which stand-alone characters would you most like to see? Why don’t you just tell us what you’d like to see in the comments below?
