Though it’s not set in stone just yet it appears the sequel to the Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice is continuing to move forward. Recently, Michael Keaton commented on his possible involvement in the sequel and said that now Burton is involved, he says “it’s going to be hard not to be in.”
I haven’t been shy about voicing my objections for this sequel in the past but it looks like that’s not going to stop Burton so I’m going to make my peace with it. Perhaps if Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice again, it can at least give the sequel a sense of continuity.
There’s also a small part of me that still hopes that Burton revisiting one of his better movies might remind him what helped make his movies work in the early days. Maybe this way he can remember that his movies were better when he focused more on the characters and the story and less on the elaborate spooky sets.
On the plus side, whatever the story is for the sequel I don’t think it could sound any more ridiculous than the original sequel plan of Beetlejuice entering a surf contest in Hawaii.
