Did you think Emile Hirsch starring in the John Belushi biopic was an odd choice? Well it might be getting weirder very soon. Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, That Awkward Moment) may end up playing Belushi’s SNL co-star and friend Dan Aykroyd (whose also one of the film’s producers).
The news allegedly came from Hirsch himself as he apparently decided to make the announcement while at a Sundance party saying “A shout-out to Miles Teller!” We’re going to be working together soon. He’s playing Dan Aykroyd in the Belushi movie.”
While Teller’s representatives confirmed that he has indeed been offered the role but that he has not signed on yet. They say that he will not be committing to any new projects until he has finished promoting his upcoming film That Awkward Moment (set to be released in the U.S. on January 31st).
I have to say it does appear that Hirsch jumped the gun quite a bit with this announcement. The people behind the John Belushi biopic aren’t exactly the only people offering Teller work right now, so it’s not exactly inconceivable that he may end up doing another picture. He’s already got a role in Divergent and if that ends up being successful then the sequels will probably keep him busy for some time and he’s also being considered to play Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot.
As for whether Teller would be a good fit for the role of Dan Aykroyd, I have to admit I’m rather skeptical. Then again, I just watched him in The Spectacular Now just the other day and he was terrific in it. Also, if he can manage to make 21 and Over watchable then I should at least give him the benefit of the doubt about this.
