No matter who plays Ant-Man, it’s going to be excellent. That’s something we can all agree on. Giving Edgar Wright a Marvel budget, and a character with powers as versatile as Ant-Man’s to play with, looks like a slam-dunk. Whether it’s Paul Rudd, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or some heretofore unmentioned candidate, the movie will be great. I’m saying it now. If you wanna mock my prognostications I’ll be here WAITING FOR YOU. Anyway, there’s a new rumor circulating the film. It looks like Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp!!!!) may be appearing in the film, but not in her super hero capacity.
The only name attached to the role thus far is Rashida Jones. That is great news. Jones has been a staple of television comedy and an underrated contributor to many hilarious films. More exposure for such a talented woman is certainly a good thing.
Obviously Jones and Rudd have worked together before and found great success. If that’s the pair they settle on it might be a great sign for the film. It will build up a nice chemistry on stage. What about The Wasp though? All signs point to no super-heroine in the film. That means we’ll be dealing with the annoying, shallow heiress version of Janet Van Dyne.
Is this maybe a hint that we will be dealing with the Hank Pym Ant-Man rather than Scott Lang? Pym and Van Dyne have a long, tumultuous history in the Marvel comic universe. I’m interested to see how this plays out, but I have no idea what to expect. Again, the movie will be amazing – I’m sure of it. I just wonder what it’s going to look like once it lands in theaters.
