Joss Whedon talks “S.H.I.E.L.D.”

The geek god who is Joss Whedon recently sat down with TVLine to talk about the upcoming Marvel TV series that he’s producing, S.H.I.E.L.D. He is very excited about the show, because of how unique it is.

“It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

Whedon said that the show will be true to its source material, and there will be no doubt that it is a Marvel show. While it’s very likely that some of Marvel’s famous characters will end up on the show, Whedon gives the original characters his priority first.

The pilot episode for S.H.I.E.L.D. just wrapped filming about a week ago, and ABC is allegedly putting it on the fast-track for release later this year.

I’m excited to see Whedon back in the realm of television, and S.H.I.E.L.D. is right up his alley. I am also intrigued about the TV shows he mentioned that have “people looking into their own belly buttons.” I wonder which shows, or what kind of shows, he was referring to.

Are you excited for Whedon’s latest TV project? Why don’t you just tell us what you think about this in the comments below?
