Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Picked Up by ABC for 2013

As if it was any question, ABC Television has picked up the Joss Whedon series Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for the 2013 season. The news of the pickup leaked before ABC announced it and there was a video teaser involving The Hulk that has since been blocked by Disney.

The video showed Hulk smashing a car and it looks like SHIELD is profiling Hulk for their records. Obviously someone jumped the gun on releasing it, so we will have to wait a bit longer before we can see it again.

Clark Gregg is coming back as Agent Coulson for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, despite appearing to have died in The Avengers, but Marvel said that if the show was picked up they would have an explanation for his return. Hopefully it is because Nick Fury lied about his death to fire up The Avengers, because that is the only explanation that makes sense. I know some want him to return as a replica, maybe The Vision, but this is mainstream television and it might be better to just go simple.

It is my hope that this is one time that Joss Whedon can make a show and not have networks stab him in the back. With the billion-plus he made Marvel, he should get his way here. Joss directed the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD pilot while his brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen helped write it and will run the show while Joss is busy with The Avengers 2.

The TV show will focus on the human agents of SHIELD and not the superheroes, although the dangers they face will be more than natural. And we won’t have to wait long to see something on it, because Marvel is showing a first look at Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD during the season finale of Once Upon a Time this Sunday.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will debut this fall on ABC.
