‘Men in Black 4’ Gets a Screenwriter

Funny how a movie can make over $600 million last summer and barely be remembered. I had mercifully forgotten  Men in Black III ever happened. Yet this week Columbia Pictures hired screenwriter Oren Uziel to write a follow-up film in the alien action-adventure franchise.

I’ve been aware of Uziel ever since his screenplay The Kitchen Sink showed up on 2010’s Blacklist — an annual list of the best un-produced screenplays circulating around Hollywood. Following that, he wrote the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth trailer that hit YouTube and caused the internet to take a breath — leading to the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web-series at Machinima and talks of a possible Mortal Kombat film reboot.

Since then The Kitchen Sink got optioned for production and is set for release next year and Oren Uziel was hired to write the 21 Jump Street sequel (22 Jump Street?) — also at Columbia. Perhaps Columbia Pictures was so impressed with his work they hired him for Men in Black 4 as well. One thing is for sure, you better get used to Oren Uziel as he’s fast becoming one of Hollywood’s rising talents.

On the bright side, at least he was able to eek out one original screenplay before Hollywood set him up doing sequels and reboots.
