Marvel proved this year that they could take characters that no one knew anything about and create a movie that was not only successful, but the biggest movie of 2014 regardless of genre. Next up for Marvel is introducing a whole slew of new characters in the Marvel Phase 3 movies, including solo efforts for new heroes Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and a new team known as The Inhumans.
The big one here to remember is The Inhumans.
Kevin Feige made some interesting comments while introducing the new slate of Marvel movies this week. He said that the biggest movie in Phase 3 was Thor: Ragnarok, which he said will change everything in the Marvel Universe. He also said that the two-part Avengers: Infinity War films will officially end the current direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, in the very busy Phase 3, there is also the movie called The Inhumans. While the current direction of Marvel movies will end in Phase 3, Feige hinted that The Inhumans could open the door for new franchises separate from the current Marvel Universe. According to Feige, The Inhumans movie could open “a series of franchises unto themselves.”
For those who don’t know, The Inhumans used to be humans, but the Kree race (Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy was Kree) experimented on the humans and they all developed superhuman powers. Soon, they decided they were not safe on Earth among humans and moved to the Dark Side of the Moon. It was there that they set up their own government and society, which is doesn’t allow anyone to rise from their specific class position.
Honestly, it would be a perfect movie to set up similar to the Game of Thrones television series. The king and ruler of Attilan is Black Bolt, who Vin Diesel is rumored to be playing. His wife and Queen is Medusa and the rest of the royal family includes Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad and Lockjaw. Their greatest enemy is Black Bolt’s brother Maximus.
Feige mentioned that some Inhuamns refused to conform to that society and left Attilan to integrate into the real world, where they mated with regular humans and spread their powers. This sounds very, very similar to the Mutants in Marvel and there was even hints that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as Inhumans and not Mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It sounds like the Phase 4 movies might be based around Inhumans, meaning that Marvel is creating their own X-Men styled world since they never got the rights to those characters back from Fox. With a mixture between the Game of Thrones world and the world of Mutants, Phase 4 could be a very different group of movies.
