Renegade Weekend Box Office: 10.19.14

weekend box office

Welcome to this week’s Renegade Weekend Box Office Wrap Up. From here out, this column will hit live every Monday morning with the final box office numbers for the weekend and a look at what rose and what failed at the theaters over the weekend.

After a nice first week take for David Fincher’s Gone Girl last week, the Brad Pitt led World War II tank movie Fury roared into theaters and blazed over everything in its path. Fury finished the weekend with around $23.5 million, which is nowhere near as good as Gone Girl made last week but was still good enough for first. Read the Renegade Cinema Fury review here.

Gone Girl, meanwhile, is a huge success for David Fincher. It has surpassed $100 million and has already passed the total domestic take of his last two movies (The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The second week drop was a very small 33%.

This week’s big animated release, The Book of Life, had some pretty nice promotion and is hitting right before Halloween, but didn’t set the world on fire. It’s $17 million was actually a little less than last month’s The Boxtrolls opening. It was a decent take for a small animation studio though.

The other opening this week was the Nicholas Sparks’ chick flick, The Best of Me. That movie didn’t do much business, only bringing in $10.2 million in its opening weekend. The movie actually finished behind second week movie, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It will likely be one of the lowest Sparks’ adaptations made. Read the Renegade Cinema The Best of Me review here. Here is a look at the total weekend box office report.
