The Rock Hints at a New DC Comics Superhero Role

The Rock DC Comics

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did an interview with Total Film and mentioned that he will in fact be starring in an upcoming DC Comics movie. This isn’t new because The Rock DC Comics role was hinted at months ago, but at that time the biggest thought was that he would play John Stewart, a member of the Green Lantern Corps in the Justice League movies.

Once again, there is a lot of speculation about who he is going to play. Here are the hints that The Rock gave in his interview: (a) he has the power of Superman, (b) Its not Green Lantern, (c) He can throw down, and (d) “just say the word.”

Well, the first thing that people assumed was that The Rock is talking about playing Shazam, the hero formerly known as Captain Marvel in the DC Comics universe. The character is a teenager who turns into a superhero named Captain Marvel with the powers of a God when he yells out the magic word SHAZAM.

That is a nice theory, but there might be something else here.

The Rock has always talked about one of his favorite heroes being the villain/anti-hero Black Adam. Now, Black Adam is the biggest enemy of Captain Marvel, and he has similar powers, which is also triggered by yelling one word. In the Marvel series “52,” Black Adam became more than just a villain when he saved his people while remaining a villain the eyes of the rest of the world.

With a Captain Marvel/Shazam movie coming according to reports, this is probably the DC Comics project that The Rock is talking about. However, people jumping to the conclusion that The Rock will play the character of Shazam might be premature. Shazam is pretty boring and Black Adam would fit The Rock’s personality so much better.

Word is that the announcement of who The Rock will play in the DC Comics universe will come at Comic-Con 2014.
