As the troubles with the Ant-Man adaptation continue to plague Marvel and Disney, it appears their quest for a new director will only be getting harder. A couple of days ago, Marvel had announced a shortlist of three candidates to replace Edgar Wright, but that list quickly got shorter when their first choice Adam McKay quickly turned them down. Now it appears another candidate may soon be unavailable as another director on the shortlist Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) will soon be unavailable since he is now rumored for the Ghostbusters 3 director job.
Even if Fleischer signs on for Ghostbusters 3 though, the film will still face an uphill battle to see the light of day. After the death of Harold Ramis earlier this year, it appears much of the enthusiasm for the project has gone with it. Ever since, Dan Aykroyd is the basically the only Ghostbuster that really wants to move forward with the sequel.
If this indeed does make Fleischer unavailable for Ant-Man, that only leaves Rawson Thurber (We’re the Millers) from Marvel’s shortlist. Perhaps less than coincidentally, Thurber had initially been reported as the front runner for the job before the job had been offered to Adam McKay.
Will Ghostbusters 3 ever get made? What would Ruben Fleischer choosing the Ghostbusters 3 director job mean for the future of Ant-Man? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
