Marvel Comics has its own version of Arkham Asylum called the Ravencroft Institute. It now looks like the Institute will show up in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after Marc Webb tweeted out a photo from Day 30 of the shoot titled “Ravencroft.”
I am almost 100% certain that this is where Curt Connors (The Lizard) is being held, and from what the first movie showed at the end, there is someone else able to get in there and make threats towards Peter Parker and his loved ones.
In the comics, the U.S. government formed Ravencroft as an institute for the criminally insane and was ran by Dr. Ashley Kafka. Dr. Leonard Samson, last seen in Marvel’s Incredible Hulk movie, replaced her over time, but that can’t happen in a Sony movie, so this one should be just ran by Kafka (possibly the Felicity Jones role). It held over time names like Electro, Vulture, Carnage, Doctor Octopus and Jackal, all names from Spider-Man’s rogue’s gallery.
While the only thing shown was this photo, there is a good chance Spider-Man, or Peter Parker, might be paying a visit to Curt Connors for some reason in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, meaning more Rhys Ifans, which is always a good thing. Also, with at least two bad guys this time around (Electro and Rhino), the Institute might come in handy to hold all these villains.
My question is if somehow Norman Osborne has a stake in the Institute, which could go a long way in explaining Curt Connor’s late night visitor.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
