Warner Brothers has hired screenwriter Chris Terrio to pen the latest draft of the Batman vs. Superman script. Terrio is best known for winning an Oscar last year for writing the screenplay for Argo (also a Warner Brothers film). This news doesn’t come as too much of a surprise given Terrio’s recent success in working with the studio not to mention our new Batman himself Ben Affleck.
Most of the news about Batman vs. Superman has been making me increasingly skeptical about the film’s quality, but I actually find this to be rather encouraging. While I don’t think Man of Steel was a bad movie by any means, I thought the biggest problem with it was they tried way too hard to make it like The Dark Knight, even though when done correctly Superman is absolutely nothing like Batman. Up until now I had no reason to think they would change that game plan with the Batman vs. Superman script since Goyer wrote the screenplay for both that and Man of Steel.
My hope now though, now that Terrio is involved, is that he can change things around and make it more fun instead of gritty. Hopefully he can do what Drew Goddard did when he got called in to give World War Z some last minute rewrites. Admittedly, this is probably wishful thinking on my part but as far as this movie is concerned I’m going to take it where I can get it.
Do you think Terrio is a good fit for the Batman vs. Superman script? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
