Alexander González Iñárritu, a very gifted director who created 21 Grams, Babel and Amores Perros, will be doing a very unusual project in the future. For the first time, he’ll be trying his hand at dark comedy with a project called Birdman.
The film will center around an actor who used to portray an iconic superhero and decides to produce a Broadway play to kickstart his comeback. Two days ago, it was announced on First Showing that Michael Keaton will be playing the leading role.
This is a very, very smart move, considering that Keaton has the life experience that the role requires after playing Batman in Tim Burton’s films.
That being, Keaton won’t be the only big name associated with the film. Emma Stone will play the actor’s daughter who functions as his assistant after leaving rehab. Naomi Watts will be playing one of the actresses in the Broadway play Keaton’s character is working on, and Zach Galifianakis will be playing the play’s producer.
Yesterday there was an even bigger name added to the cast. Collider reported that Edward Norton will be playing the play’s leading actor whose ego threatens puts the comeback of Keaton’s character in jeopardy.
While I’ve only seen Iñárritu’s 21 Grams, the premise of this film and its star-studded cast just shot it straight to the top of my “To-See List.”
What do you think of this film and cast? Are you excited to see it? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
