Every Marvel movie has had a post credit scene since Iron Man brought in Nick Fury for the first time. No different than the rest, there will be a Thor: The Dark World post credit scene as well. What Marvel may not have expected was director Alan Taylor bashing that scene in a recent interview.
** There are minor spoilers about the Thor: The Dark World post credit scene here, although we don’t spoil what happens in the scene – just who it is about **
There are two different Thor: The Dark World post credit scenes, and it appears that Taylor is not happy with one of them at all. As a matter of fact, when asked about it, he said that he wouldn’t “blame” it – or “attribute” it – to James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy.
What that tells us is that at least one of the Thor: The Dark World post credit scenes is about Guardians of the Galaxy, and according to Taylor, it includes James Gunn’s sets.
“It’s a different tone. I would have shot it differently. But I think it’s cool that it reaches out and touches that other universe. That universe is coming. The Guardians universe is really cool and wacky… but that sequence in the credits, I would say, is the only part of the movie where I’m happy to give the credit away…”
Wow, that is kind of harsh.
For those who don’t know him, James Gunn is a very unique filmmaker and director. While Taylor cut his teeth on intense things like Game of Thrones, Gunn cut his teeth at Troma Studios. Since leaving, he has created spectacularly brilliant movies like Slither and Super – two movies that don’t seem to be calling cards for a big budget blockbuster for Marvel, but movies that shows that Gunn is damn brilliant.
The fact that Taylor is snubbing his nose at this Thor: The Dark World post credit scene and calls it something he is “happy to give the credit away” makes me dislike the guy. It sounds really douchey of him, to be honest. Guess I will have to wait and see the actual scene before passing my own critique, but Taylor’s backhand insult towards Gunn was way out of line.
