It was a bit of a surprise that Disney didn’t announce a firm Star Wars release Episode VII at the D23 convention this year. Although the company remained firm on the year 2015, mum was the word on whether the film would be released during the summer blockbuster season. Past Star Wars movies have always come out in the May time-frame, so why will Episode VII be any different?
December has already proven to be a fertile film release ground with the Lord of the Rings, Hobbit and Harry Potter franchises performing very well during the U.S. winter month. It would also be a smart move from a merchandising standpoint; Episode VII could come out just in time to begin what’s sure to be a deluge of toys and various other merchandise tie ins. Everybody wins; the director, cast and crew get more time to polish their work (hopefully this doesn’t mean more and more lens flares — just kidding (I think)) and toy companies can roll out all their new action figures and vehicles from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. What do you guys and gals think of a December 2015 Star Wars release date?
