Joel Edgerton, squad team leader in Zero Dark Thirty and Daisy’s millionaire husband Tom Buchanan in the latest Great Gatsby adaptation is in talks to star alongside Christian Bale in Ridley Scott’s Moses epic, Exodus. Bale will be playing Moses in the Exodus cast while Edgerton, if he joins the cast, will play the Egyptian Ruler Ramses (aka the bad guy for those not in the Biblical know).
This certainly is promising news for the actor, and for fans of his work as well. This Renegade Reporter cannot vouch for Edgerton’s prowess in Gatsby (missed it in theaters) but the man was solid as Patrick in Zero Dark Thirty. And of course he was fantastic opposite Tom Hardy in Warrior. Edgerton’s stock is on the rise with this and other films (like the currently in pre-production unnamed Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter) science fiction project).
Now it seems like it’s a two-way race between Scott’s Exodus and the upcoming Noah (Darren Aronofsky) for which Biblical film will do better in 2014. It should be noted that Noah, which stars Russell Crowe and Emma Stone, is currently in post-production and slated for release on March 28, 2014. On the flip side, Exodus is set to begin filming in September for a planned released date of December 12, 2014. Methinks Exodus will sell more tickets given its release timeframe; after all, releasing Passion of the Christ during Lent worked box office wonders for Mel Gibson.
