On Thursday, the cast and crew behind Dexter returned to Hall H of the San Diego Comic-Con for one final time. The panel included current stars like Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, Desmond Harrington, and past ones like Julie Benz, Yvonne Strahovski, Lauren Velez, and Erik King. Also on the panel were executive producers Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, Manny Coto, and Clyde Phillips.
Each and every one of the panelists expressed their gratitude to the fans and for having the opportunity to be on such a unique and beloved show. Erik King, who played Sgt. James Doakes in the show’s first two seasons, was wearing a t-shirt with his signature line, “Surprise, Motherf***er” specifically for the panel. He claimed that he’s surprised how popular the role became.
“I’m blown away by the fact that I was only on the show for two years and people still come up to me.”
Some of the cast members did get very teary-eyed talking about the tenure of the program and the relationship with the fans. Julie Benz, who played Dexter’s ill-fated bride Rita in the first four seasons, recalled how the show first came to Comic-Con and was housed in a much smaller room than the massive Hall H. She also had another kind set of words for the fans.
“The most authentic thing about this show is our relationship with you. It can’t be a wrap until we’re all here together, and it’s a wrap with you all now.”
No one on the panel gave any hints or spoilers on what is to come in the remaining episodes of the eighth and final season of the show. However, they did confirm that the Dr. Vogel character will remain throughout the final season, especially since she has been revealed to be a major part of Dexter’s origin story that we’re only just learning about. We will also continue to see Debra struggle with her issues. Surprisingly, Jennifer Carpenter says that she feels that the character should die.
“ I wanted her and want her to die. As an actor it’s because I love her.”
The Season 8 Blu-ray/DVD set will be arriving in stores on November 5th. The complete series will also be out that day, packaged in a box that resembles Dexter’s blood slide trophy case. The complete series will also comprise an art book and include bonus material from the series.
What do you think about what the cast and crew had to say about the series? Will you miss Dexter when it’s gone? Why don’t you tell us what you think in the comments below?
