There have been a lot of worries about the Pacific Rim opening weekend tracking numbers, making it look like Grown Ups 2 will beat it at the box office. However, that has caused many film lovers, and those who know Guillermo Del Toro can do no wrong, to speak out loudly!
Rick has preached the word with this original story about the poor tracking numbers, and then again with this one about Del Toro’s response, and then D-Rock eased all our fears with his Pacific Rim review here.
Well, with all that said, there is good news heading into the Pacific Rim opening weekend. After slow pre-ticket sales and poor tracking numbers, things have started to pick up. With the movie set to hit theaters, the weekend movie pre-sales see Pacific Rim dominating with 60-percent of all pre-sales through Fandango.
This won’t be the first time that a recent movie has beat projections, as both World War Z and The Great Gatsby were tracking low and both opened to big numbers. It also helps that Pacific Rim is sitting at 76-percent fresh. Grown Ups 2, on the other hand, is sitting at five-percent rotten, one of the lowest scores in recent memory.
The lesson to this story is to go see Pacific Rim opening weekend. Guillermo Del Toro won’t let you down.
